From what I learned as a child is that Gray's Restaurant & fuel station was originally named, " Plainview Restaurant & fuel station". I grew up, knowing it as Gray's Restaurant. It is located slightly North West of Maryville, Mo. on North 71 hwy.. It is the oldest rurally owned & operated Restaurant & fuel station that has a Maryville, Mo. Rural Route address. It has very good food & used to be the best restaurant to take your family out to eat at on the weekends. Nice Owners & waitresses that better be nice or they will not be employed there very long. Whether you want to stop in for a glass of milk & a scoop of ice cream & chocolate syrup ( now soft serve), eat pie or cake, drink a cup of hot, stout coffee ( hopefully they fixed that part):-), eat a good sandwich with potato chips or French fries, or have a nice, large dinner or breakfast, it is worth the drive to it. Usually a meal is meat, potatoes & gravy, choice of vegetable, & a dinner roll or hot soup of the day. They have sides of cottage cheese, canned fruit, canned vegetables. They are a clean restaurant that is very kind & friendly. Their fuel service has full service, self service, & Semi truck pumps. As with any full service pump station, it costs more than the self serve side because they fill your vehicle up to where you want it filled & clean your Windows. They check your fluids if you need them too. It ranges just about $.05 more a gallon of fuel. If you have young children & are a single parent or only one parent is present, elderly or "senior citizen in age", then it is a a great service that they offer. Remember that these places of business are to be preserved not replaced.
