Purchased Hunter ceiling fan 11/24/17 to replace similar fan gone bad: Black Friday sale - good price.
1. $35 charge for installer to come out, inspect and estimate cost to install in tall, vaulted ceiling.
2. Installer came Mon 11/27: Told existing 4' fan extension rod (same brand/Hunter) would need to be replaced. When asked why, told colors don't match (new fan exact same color/brand as old one) and also told a new remote would be required. When asked why, was told Lowes wouldn't honor guarantee if 'old' parts were re-used. Apparently, if I just purchased the fan, the warranty would be 'good'? Or are the warranties on Lowes purchases only good if installed by Lowes' installers, requiring all new accessories?
3. Installer said he would write up estimate and send it to Lowes, who would in turn contact me with estimated cost and schedule the installation. Expect to hear the next day, or possibly the following day.
No call by Wed 11/29/17. Called Lowes, told they hadn't received
estimate yet.
No call by Thurs 11/30/17. Called Lowes, still no estimate.
4. Received call Fri 12/1/17. Installer estimate: $510 to install, plus $25 for new 4' down rod, plus $20-50 for new remote. After payment received, the installer would contact me to schedule installation at some future date.
Does this sound reasonable? You decide. I chose not to participate.
Called Handy Vets 11/28/17. Estimate provided over phone, $436 plus 10% military discount, no 'inspection' required. Scheduled installation for Dec. 12.
